- 2025 JOINT TAX BOARD STRATEGIC RETREAT DECLARED OPEN IN EKITI
The 2025 Joint Tax Board (JTB) Strategic Retreat has officially commenced at the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Center, Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The retreat, which runs from September 11 to 14, 2025, was formally declared open by the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
With the theme “Re-imagining the Nigerian Tax Eco-System: Harnessing the Four Tax Reform Laws as Game Changers in Tax Administration,” the retreat brings together key stakeholders to deliberate on the implementation and impact of the recently enacted tax reform laws. These include:
✓The Nigerian Tax Act
✓The Nigerian Tax Administration Act
✓The Nigerian Revenue Service Act
✓The Joint Revenue Service Act
Distinguished personalities in attendance included Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Reforms; Professor Abiola Sani, SAN; and the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service – FIRS (FIRS) and Chairman of the JTB, who was ably represented by Alhaji M.L. Abubakar, Coordinating Director of General Services, FIRS. Also present was Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, Executive Secretary of the JTB, who delivered the welcome address.
The event also witnessed the full participation of all 37 Chairmen of State Internal Revenue Services, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), underscoring the importance of collective collaboration in Nigeria’s tax reform journey.
The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) delegation was led by its Executive Chairman, Comrade Jerry Adams , FCTI, FNIM, FCE, CNA, alongside the Executive Director Revenue Operations, Dr. Muhammad Lawal, and the Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman, Ms. Bernice Abeku.
Hosted by the Ekiti State Government in partnership with the JTB and the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), the retreat is expected to chart a clear roadmap for strengthening Nigeria’s tax ecosystem, enhancing efficiency, and improving revenue mobilization across the federation ahead of 1st January, 2026 implementation.
